The
Journeyman Electrician will support Denver Zoo's missionby performing skilled level electrical work in the maintenance, event space, repair, and installation of electrical systems and equipment at the Zoo.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Electrical Maintenance and Repairs
- Install, maintain, and enhance electrical systems and components. Conduct maintenance, alterations, repairs, and installations of electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures per NEC standards.
- Perform troubleshooting and repairs on fire notification systems.
- Ensure all work meets applicable electrical codes, NFPA specifications, blueprints, and standards.
- Schedule and coordinate maintenance work orders assigned by the Multi-Trades Manager, including responding to electrical service calls and troubleshooting issues.
- Install new or upgraded electrical equipment and systems for construction, tenant finishing, zoo events, Zoolights, and remodeling projects.
- Utilize Facility Dude or the current CMMS system to receive work order assignments, track employee time, and provide detailed descriptions of tasks performed.
Mentor and Coach Lower-Level Technicians
- Provide hands-on training and guidance to lower-level technicians, ensuring they understand and follow safety protocols and standard practices in electrical work.
- Conduct regular skill assessments to identify areas for improvement and tailor mentoring sessions to address specific needs.
- Demonstrate proper techniques for installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures.
- Assist lower-level technicians in interpreting blueprints, sketches, and schematics to plan and execute electrical projects effectively.
- Foster a collaborative and inclusive learning environment that encourages questions, promotes knowledge sharing, and builds confidence.
- Monitor progress and provide regular updates to the Multi-Trades Manager/Master Electrician on the development and performance of lower-level technicians.
- Encourage adherence to Denver Zoo's Core Values and Sustainability Policies, reinforcing the importance of safety, quality, and customer service in all aspects of electrical work.
Communication & Collaboration
- Be available during Zoo Lights and other events to ensure electrical operational success, and provide backup for setting up and striking audio, video, lighting, and staging equipment.
- Deliver outstanding customer service to zoo employees, guests, and maintenance customers, aligning with Denver Zoo's guest engagement strategies.
- Coordinate installation, maintenance, and repair work with other trades areas.
- Draft evaluations and make recommendations to the Multi-Trades Manager/Master Electrician.
Other Duties and Responsibilities - Prepare work plans using blueprints, sketches, and schematics.
- Maintain records, prepare reports, and submit completed work orders promptly.
- Prepare cost estimates for materials, labor, and equipment.
- Ensure compliance with all safety policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Maintain a flexible schedule for event startups and weekend shifts.
Technical / Professional Requirements & Qualifications - Completion or in pursuit of a or high school degree or equivalent required, completion of a recognized apprenticeship program or equivalent training or any equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
- Experience: Minimum 6 years' experience working as a Journeymen Electrician, experience in mentoring and training lower-level technicians and non-electricians, previous work in a nonprofit is preferred, or any equivalent combination of experience, lived experience, and/or special skills.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and electrical codes.
- Strong knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and NFPA specifications.
- Skilled in using electrical testing and diagnostic equipment.
- Ability to troubleshoot and repair fire notification systems.
- Capable of working in various conditions, including heights, confined spaces, and outdoor environments.
- Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities.
- Exceptional customer service skills, with a commitment to providing a high level of service to zoo employees, guests, and maintenance customers.
- Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite and CMMS systems are preferred.
- Requires organizational skills, written and oral communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize work and tasks. Requires adaptability to produce and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, multi-task and changing environment, and the ability to work as part of a team.

Position Conditions - Ability to pass a physical examination, background check and pre-employment drug and alcohol screen.
- Clear driving record.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Schedule Availability: Monday-Friday with possible rotating on-call availability nights and weekends

- Valid Journeyman License
- Valid NICET fire alarm certification.
Compensation Range for this position is $28.62 - $37.98 (hourly).
