Job Description Role The process engineer provides professional and technical expertise on projects to improve the efficiency of the process, to reduce raw material costs in the area, and to ensure the satisfaction of our customers. This position also acts as the primary manager for new product development within their area of responsibility.
Accountabilities - A leadership role in establishing a safe workplace by following established safety rules and holding all employees accountable for working safely; maintain a clean and safe workplace through good housekeeping practices.
- Provide technical support and direction to the operation by providing timely feedback for optimizing quality, efficiency and cost.
- Focus primarily on operational issues within their assigned department, while participating in cross-functional teams, which impact the entire operations.
- Troubleshoot downstream production areas impacted by production out of primary area of responsibility.
- Assist the operation by functioning as Shift Supervisor in a vacation relief role.
- Find ways to improve the efficiency of operations for energy consumption and reduce the environmental impact of their assigned department.
- Implement new process or chemical technologies, conduct raw material assessments and provide feedback to management on performance and cost.
- Develop and maintain good relationships with operations, maintenance, field service, sales and marketing personnel and act as a communication pathway for customer quality issues.
- Manage vendors and find ways to bring additional value to the mill by working with suppliers to enhance our technology with better products and services.
- Assist with quality laboratory testing issues and research quality issues from base-stock to customer.
- Determine root cause and corrective actions for quality and production deficiencies.
- Primary oversight of all chemicals including performance, cost, efficiency, application and delivery systems in the department.
- Directly support the operation in outage execution, safety improvements and weekend duty coverage.
- Manage staff as assigned.
Qualifications Requirements - B.S. Degree in Chemical Engineering, Pulp and Paper or other related Engineering field.
- Prefer 1+ years of experience paper manufacturing
- Strong analytical and technical skills.
- Excellent communication, documentation, and computer skills.
- Possess a high level of integrity, inspiring trust.
- A drive for results and desire to continually improve.
- Effectively manage conflict, possess managerial courage and interpersonal savvy.
- Willingness to work rotating shift schedule including 8 or 12-hour shifts and to supervise hourly employees as needed.
