Job Description: THE OPPORTUNITY
The senior editor for Scholastic News will be involved in all aspects of producing award-winning news magazines for students in grades 3-6 nationwide. In addition to writing and editing current events articles for students, the senior editor will work closely with the video and web production teams to create engaging online content to supplement the print magazines.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Propose, research, write, and edit, and proof articles for print and online publication
- Serve as main editorial liaison with video production team and write video scripts as needed
- Assist in developing content for supplemental educational resources, such as reading comprehension activities, leveled articles, and vocabulary slideshows
- Oversee editorial quality assurance (QA) of magazine websites
- Top-edit content and supplemental resources written by junior staffers and freelancers, as needed

Qualifications HOW YOU CAN FIT
(Qualifications) Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities The ability to write clear, captivating, age-appropriate articles that will engage kids in third through sixth grades is a must. The ideal candidate will be able to multitask effectively in a fast-paced environment and prioritize short- and long-term assignments. Creativity and a passion for producing high-interest content for kids is essential. Knowledge of trends in education - including evolving standards, curricula, and assessments - is a plus.
Experience and Education: Experience: A minimum of six years' writing/editing experience, preferably in educational/children's publishing
Education: Bachelor's degree required
