JOB SUMMARY: The Strength and Conditioning Coach provides instruction to students following OES standards and methods and recognized best practice. The coach promotes curiosity and the exploration of physical literacy while fostering an appreciation for lifelong fitness. The teacher cultivates in students the OES values of community, social responsibility, and respect for individual differences. In addition to the qualifications detailed below, the successful strength and conditioning coach will possess excellent communication, and interpersonal skills, strong organizational skills, and the ability to collaborate collegially and effectively with members of the Athletic Department, Upper School faculty, and Administration.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES: - Design, manage, develop, and facilitate a dynamic, engaging, and effective Strength and Conditioning curriculum for teams and individuals
- Assist coaches and all student athletes with workout programs and injury prevention.
- Effectively manage an inclusive learning environment so that all students can learn safely and effectively regardless of athletic ability
- Effectively collaborate with other faculty to support class initiatives, clubs, and activities that utilize the fitness center.
- Collaborate with the Residential Life staff to coordinate training and oversight of the fitness center.
- Develop a speed training curriculum for out of season student-athletes
- Oversee the OES weight room and ensure that equipment is functional and safe
- Update the Athletic Director bi-weekly regarding usage and programming.
Requirements MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: - BA/BS or equivalent in relevant discipline
- Broad knowledge of PE curricula
- Intercultural competence, ability to interact appropriately with a diverse array of students, coworkers, family members; ability to teach diverse groups of students effectively, demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion
- Current First Aid and CPR Certifications (OES offers training once per year)
- IT skills: general digital literacy, intermediate to advanced MS Office Suite, database skills, web applications including Google Docs, Zoom or Skype, etc. as appropriate to job duties, knowledge of applicable educational technology
Ability to pass a background check and drug screen
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: - MA/MS in relevant discipline
- Two years of PE teaching experience
- Two or more years' experience teaching in a secondary school setting
Coaching experience, willingness to coach a sport
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: - Ability to cultivate a sense of community, social responsibility, and service among students
- Ability to grow professionally and to stay abreast of changes in the field of physical education
- Interpersonal skills, ability to collaborate, work effectively on teams, and maintain collegial relations with colleagues
- Communication skills, ability to listen and to communicate clearly verbally and in writing
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: - Ability to lift and carry up to 55 pounds on a regular basis
- Ability to set-up and take down a variety of physical education equipment
- Physical fitness sufficient to demonstrate and model the full range of physical education activities
- Mobility sufficient to move about the campus
- Ability to see, hear, and speak to interact with students, parents, and groups of individuals
